Austin A30

This Austin A30 was an abandoned project in a stone barn. In just 3 months Devon Classic Cars transformed it into a showpiece for the Bristol Classic Restoration Show.

A surprising find
Late last summer, Peter received a phone call from a gentleman who was keen to sell an old restoration project. Located in an old barn, on the outskirts of Plymouth and hiding beneath hessian sacks and tarpaulin, the small 1955 Austin A30 was unveiled.

The appearance was uncared for, with no paint, no windows, only one fitted door and flat tyres, no seats, no dash, no headlining and plenty of cobwebs! Looking like this little “baby Austin” (as they were known in motor industry) it appeared beyond restoration. About to turn down the sellers offer, Peter took a look under the bonnet and saw to his amazement twin “SU” carburetors – A 1275 or similar sized engine in an immaculately painted engine bay! Under the car, immaculate paintwork and much modified suspension and running gear which were identified as MG Midget components had been carried out and the body panel appeared solid. The car had clearly received a large amount of restoration and modification work and came with a large quantity of spares but it still had a long way to go, however, all work had been professionally carried out and it now appeared that there was great potential in completing the unfinished restoration.

Showpiece
A price was negotiated and the A30 was brought back to Devon Classic Cars for further analysis.

It was decided that although considerable work and cost would be needed to finish it, the little Austin would look wonderful as a showpiece for any motor shows attended.
The car has been finished in its original mineral blue and outwardly looking as standard as possible and in just three month, the car is ready to put forward as our showpiece on the 17th/18th February 2007 at the BRISTOL CLASSIC RESTORATION SHOW – a must see at Stand 87.
P.S. Known as the AUSTIN A30 (baby Austin) we call her “BABY VROOM!”
